I have been to over 50 apartments/houses/structures/whatever in the two years I’ve been traveling. I have seen many bad and good things which improved my sense of which place to rent.
For the benefit of other travelers (and even long-term renters), here is a checklist to make sure your short-term rental won’t ruin your trip.
